Q & A / Advice - Calcium Deposits:
IT’S “BELT & BRACES” TIME:
The Problem:
Lithographic printing is all about interaction (often complex ones)
between the consumable materials used on press and their relationship
with the press itself... to whatever degree of success.
Perfect printing with minimum downtime and operating costs, are
dependent on perfect harmony between all of these components.
The trouble is that the printer, however skilled, never has full control over
this harmony. In particular, the paper stocks are a ‘variable’ factor and
fount chemistry isn’t always formulated sympathetically... hence negative
interactions are commonplace between press, ink, paper and press
chemistry. Insoluble salts regularly plague rollers, blankets, fount
circulation systems and ultimately affect print quality... and the printer’s
patience!!
The next important question is:-
Do we try to cure the problem when it becomes evident or do we try to
prevent it occurring?
The answer is... we do both!!
